Enhance the representation of marginsalised communities and women in the judiciary.says CJI DY Chandrachud at Constitution Day event

The Constitution of India is to a large extent aspirational, and seeks to deliver political freedom and civil rights, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said on Saturday as he addressed an event to mark the Constitution Day.

“India’s liberation from colonial rule and the drafting of the Constitution were simultaneous projects. The prolonged struggle for independence culminated with the demise of colonial reign and the birth of an independent nation governed by self-rule,” he said while addressing an event at the Supreme Court.

Referring to Prime Minister’s speech where he made a strong case for rewriting the country’s history, Chandrachud  said that the past clings on to us in some measure, however, there must be an attempt to remove colonial baggage for ensuring justice and freedom.
