Major Alcohol Seizure in Pune: Goan Liquor Worth 43 Lakhs Intercepted

In a significant operation, the State Excise Department successfully intercepted a cache of Goan alcohol valued at 43 lakhs in Pune’s Katraj area on October 6, 2023.

According to State Excise Department Inspector S. L. Patil of Pune Division C, three individuals were apprehended in connection with the incident on Friday. The seized contraband consisted of 15 cartons, each containing 180 illicit alcohol bottles, with a total estimated value of Rs 42,90,000. Patil revealed that the department had received a tip-off regarding this illegal activity, prompting their swift response.

The enforcement team made the bust while conducting routine patrols in the Katraj neighborhood along the old Pune-Satara route. They intercepted a luxury six-wheeled vehicle parked outside a petrol station, which led to the discovery and confiscation of all the illicit alcohol.

The three suspects have been taken into custody, and a case has been registered against them under various sections of the Bombay Prohibition Act 1949, including Sections 65(a), 65(e), 83, 90, and 108. This operation marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to curb illegal alcohol trade and uphold the law in the region
