An FIR has been filed against journalist Nikhil Wagle in Pune because of comments he made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leader LK Advani. The comments were made after it was announced that Advani would receive the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. A local BJP leader filed a complaint against Wagle, leading to the FIR.
Sections 153A, 500, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code, which deal with inciting hatred between groups, defamation, and making statements that could injure the public, are allegedly violated by Nikhil Wagle. The cops are looking into the situation more.
The president of the BJP city unit, Dheeraj Ghate, gave a warning over Wagle’s supposed remarks and advised against letting him speak at a gathering named “Nirbhay Bano.” Unless Wagle was banned from speaking, he stated that he will spoil the event. However, to guarantee that the right to free speech is upheld, Pune Police Commissioner Arvind Shinde, the head of the Congress city unit, has requested additional protection for the event site.
Nikhil Wagle has expressed concern about the situation, stating that the BJP president of Pune city threatened to disrupt their event if the police didn’t ban it. He believes the event is important for standing up against what he calls an “undeclared emergency” and preserving democracy.
