India is hosting 2023 Hockey World Cup match with full zest and zeal.on Thursday mens FIH Hockey World Cup played between Argentina and South Africa at Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneswar. the opening ceremony for the tournament took place on Wednesday evening at Barabati stadium in Cuttack.
The Mega event was attended by union sports minister Anurag Thakur and Odisha Chief Minister Navin Pattnayak among others.
Pattnayak erected the words largest hockey sculpture on the banks of Mahanadi river in Cuttack to mark the beginning of the Mega sports event in Odisha.The sculpture unveiled by Pattnaik is 105 feet long and is made up of 5000 hockey balls. The world cup trophy and a hockey turf in front of the sand sculpture.
the artwork of sand sculpture also includes the national flags of all participating countries including India the host. Famous artists of sand sculpture Sudarshan made sand sculpture of this mega event.
The first day of tournament played four matches being held across two venues Argentina South Africa Australia and France locked their horns against each other. India will play the first match of the World Cup on Friday against Spain at 7:00 p.m. It is the fourth time that India is hosting the event.It is the first time the mens event is being hosted in two cities, Rourkela and Bhuvneshwar.
The first world cup hockey match between India and spain played at Birsa munda stadium , Rourkela,Odisha,India dominated Spain during the match. India won by 2 goals against Spain..Its a wounderful start by Indian hockey team.Next match will be played on 15 January between India and England.
