Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference president, has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate to appear for questioning on Thursday in a case of alleged money laundering.
According to official sources, Farooq, who is 86 years old, has been summoned in the context of the federal agency’s investigation into the JKCA’s alleged irregularities. Farooq, who represents Srinagar in the Lok Sabha, was charged in the case by the Enforcement Directorate in 2022. According to the ED, the case involves the transfer of funds belonging to the JKCA into the personal accounts of various individuals, including office bearers of the JKCA, and the unexplained withdrawal of money from the JKCA accounts. The ED’s case was based on a charge sheet filed by the CBI in 2018.
According to the summons, Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of J&K, will be deposed at the ED’s Srinagar office.
