“India Strongly Objects to British High Commissioner’s Controversial Visit to Pakistan-Held Kashmir
India has expressed deep concern over the contentious visit of the British High Commissioner in Islamabad, Jane Marriott, and a U.K. Foreign Office official to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on January 10, 2024, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
The objection arises following British envoy Jane Marriott’s visit to Mirpur city in the PoK region, accompanied by a U.K. Foreign Office official. India deems this act as a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, labeling it unacceptable. The Foreign Secretary has issued a robust protest with the British High Commissioner in India against this infringement.
“The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are, have been and shall always remain an integral part of India,” emphasized the Ministry of External Affairs in a tweet.
In a similar incident on October 7, 2023, India registered objections with the United States concerning the visit of American Ambassador David Blome to PoK. The Ministry of External Affairs had previously communicated India’s disapproval of both the visit and the meetings conducted by Mr. Blome in the region.”
