13 detained in Mumbai clash ahead of Pran-Pratishth ceremony, Fadnavis says ‘zero tolerance’.

Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has reaffirmed a “zero tolerance” approach towards any actions that may disrupt peace and order within the state. A clash unfolded in Mira Road, a suburb of Mumbai, during a vehicle rally celebrating the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Thirteen individuals were arrested in connection with the incident. While initially concerning, authorities clarified that the clash was not a result of communal violence but rather a confrontation between two groups sparked by a minor scuffle during the Naya Nagar rally.

DCP (Zone I), Jayant Bajbal, assured the public that there was no reported communal flare-up and urged citizens to avoid succumbing to rumors. The local police swiftly intervened, diffusing the situation and initiating a comprehensive investigation. CCTV footage is being meticulously reviewed to identify and apprehend any additional individuals involved.

Coinciding with the clash, the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya occurred, leading the Maharashtra government to declare January 22 as a state holiday. Security measures were heightened, with the deployment of Anti-Terrorist Squad commandos.

In response to the incident, Fadnavis promptly directed the Police Commissioner to take immediate action, resulting in the arrests. He maintained close communication with the Mira Bhayander Commissioner of Police, ensuring stringent measures against those responsible.

Fadnavis emphasized, “There will be zero tolerance against anyone who tries to take the law into their own hands and attempts to disturb the law and order situation in Maharashtra.” The commitment to maintaining peace and order was underscored by the government’s swift response and ongoing investigation into the clash.
