New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on track for a historic return to power in Delhi after 25 years, according to updated exit poll projections. Fresh data from Today’s Chanakya, Axis My India, and CNX, released on Thursday evening, suggests a decisive victory for the party, marking its first government in the national capital since 1998.
The Axis My India survey predicts BJP securing between 45 and 55 seats in Delhi’s 70-member Assembly, while CNX is even more optimistic, estimating a tally between 49 and 61. Today’s Chanakya gives BJP 51 seats, leaving the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with just 19. The exit polls suggest a significant setback for AAP, which had secured landslide victories in 2015 (67 seats) and 2020 (62 seats). According to the combined poll of exit polls, BJP is projected to win 42 seats—six more than the majority mark—while AAP is expected to secure only 27.
Exit polls have also reaffirmed Congress’ continued decline in the capital. Most surveys predict the party managing just one seat at best, highlighting its failure to regain political relevance in Delhi. Despite speculation about a possible Congress-AAP alliance to counter BJP, no such coalition materialized, echoing the disunity seen before last year’s Haryana election, where Congress suffered a heavy defeat.
Of the ten exit polls released so far, seven indicate a decisive BJP victory. People’s Pulse, Poll Diary, and People’s Insights predict a range of 40 to 60 seats for BJP. Meanwhile, Chanakya Strategies, DV Research, JVC, and P-Marq have all forecasted a BJP win.
AAP, however, has rejected the exit poll predictions, maintaining that similar projections were proven wrong in 2015 and 2020. Party leader Sushil Gupta dismissed the numbers, stating, “Every time exit polls have underestimated AAP, yet Arvind Kejriwal has delivered for the people of Delhi. We are confident of forming the government again.”
Meanwhile, a few polls suggest a closer contest. WeePreside and Mind Brink predict AAP securing between 46-52 and 44-49 seats, respectively. Matrize remains on the fence, giving BJP 35-40 seats and AAP 32-37.
Delhi voted in a single phase on Wednesday, and the final results will be declared on Saturday, settling the debate on whether BJP’s much-anticipated comeback will become a reality.
