Hemant Soren Arrested in ₹600cr Scam: Who’s the next Jharkhand CM?

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged land scam &  fraud  of ₹600cr.

Before agreeing to be questioned by the ED, he had allegedly avoided seven summonses and finally after lot of drama and he signed his arrest memo after his resignation as CM to Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan.

What was the Soren Scam?

The land scam involves fraudulent ownership changes of government land sold to builders, resulting in multiple arrests. Soren alleges being targeted in a significant conspiracy, while the ruling alliance plans for a successor amid state elections approaching in November.

Hemant Soren Missing Drama?

Hemant Soren returned to his Ranchi home when he was supposed to answer ED investigation questions , sparking a series of dramatic political events. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) stated that they were unable  to track down the leader, which led to accusations from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that he is “missing” and “on the run” from the federal agency. The ED sought to examine Soren in relation to a money laundering investigation. The story took a dramatic turn when the BJP went further in a dramatic way and announced a reward for reliable information that resulted in Soren’s arrest.

Expecting the ED’s questions, Hemant Soren said he’s willing to talk to them on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Even though ED officials went to his home in Delhi, they couldn’t find him. The agency took strong steps, taking away Soren’s BMW car and ₹36 lakh in cash. They say they found papers that could be evidence of wrongdoing when they searched his house in Delhi.

Rumours of Kalpana Soren as next CM:

In a surprising twist, the BJP alleges that Hemant Soren’s wife, Kalpana Soren, may be proposed as the next Chief Minister. The Governor of Jharkhand, CP Radhakrishnan, closely monitors the situation, emphasising that nobody is above the law. Radhakrishnan reiterates the importance of maintaining law and order, distancing himself from political rivalries while emphasising adherence to constitutional norms.
