Balasaheb Thorat resigned as Maharashtra Congress legislature party leader.

Balasaheb Thorat who has held several important posts in the party from membership in its highest decision making body CWC to presidentship of the state unit.

Ex-pcc chief and seven time MLA he is the party’s rural face and seen as a low key leader, capable of healing rifts within Congress.

Thorat faced and unenvival task given the short period left before the elections and the disarray in the Congress ranks. while the party did not put up much of a fight, it is still managed to win creditable 44 seats.

As a Sevan term MLA currently from Sangamner seat in Ahmednagar district event on to emerge as the rural face of the party with strong roots in maharashtra’s desperate Cooperative network wide spread Cooperative network.

As a member of Congress and NCP government in Maharashtra ,Thorat held cabinet portfolios of revenue, agriculture and school education. Thorat Mohan

Thorat won his first election in 1985 as an independent.
