When India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives decided to broaden the scope and membership of its trilateral meeting on maritime cooperation, the CSC was created in 2020. Ajit Doval, the national security advisor, emphasised on Thursday the significance of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) as a regional organisation for maintaining security and stability. He said this while speaking at the CSC’s sixth NSA-level meeting in Port Louis, Mauritius.
The Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and India are the members of the CSC. Seychelles and Bangladesh are observers in the organisation. It is understood that the member states reaffirmed the CSC’s duty and obligation to protect the Indian Ocean region’s safety, security, and stability against both conventional and non-traditional threats. A schedule of activities for 2024 was decided upon at the high-level meeting, according to the Indian High Commission in Mauritius. “National Security Advisers of India, Mauritius and Sri Lanka, as well as delegates from Seychelles and Bangladesh, participated in the 6th NSA-level Meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) today in Mauritius,” the high commission stated on X.
“NSA Shri Ajit Doval stressed in his remarks the critical role that the CSC plays in maintaining regional security and stability as well as the importance of ongoing interactions under the various pillars of cooperation. Additionally, a Roadmap of Activities for 2024 was agreed upon by the members “. It’s been reported that the discussion covered scenarios for regional security and strategies to strengthen security cooperation. At the Conclave’s fifth NSA-level meeting in March of last year, Mauritius became a member. The five pillars of cooperation under the CSC include cyber security, protection of key infrastructure, combating trafficking and transnational organised crime, countering terrorism and radicalization, maritime safety and security, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. As observer states, Bangladesh and Seychelles have been attending the CSC and the former trilateral on marine cooperation sessions.
The member states of the NSA reviewed the choices made at the previous meeting and their progress at the Port Louis summit.
According to people familiar with the situation, the member countries and observer states of the CSC took part in a variety of operations last year encompassing topics like oceanography and hydrography, marine pollution, coastal security, combating terrorism financing, and investigating terror-related incidents.
