On December 8, a fire broke out in the unlicensed dazzling candle production facility in the Talawade industrial district, killing six workers who were severely burned.
Two more women, ages 32 and 18, died in the fire at the illicit sparkling candle manufacturing business in Talawade industrial area on Thursday, bringing the total number of deaths from the incident to 11. These details were provided by Pimpri Chinchwad police officers. On December 8, at around 3:30 p.m., a fire broke out in the scintillating candle production unit in the Jyotiba Nagar neighbourhood, killing six persons. Ten more patients who suffered from serious burns were moved to Sassoon General Hospital. Nine people died in the next two days as three additional patients who were receiving treatment passed away from their wounds.
“The number of deaths has now reached 11 with the reports of the deaths of two women, ages 18 and 32, last night and this morning. Five more people, including the unit’s owner, are receiving critical care in the hospital, according to a Dehu Road police station officer on Thursday. A probe found that there was no safety precaution in place in the facility.
Using forensic DNA analysis, the police have verified the identity of the six individuals who were killed by burning on December 8. Four people have been charged by the police under sections 304(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with culpable homicide; sections 285 and 286, which deal with careless behaviour around fire, combustible materials, and explosive substances; and sections 337 and 338, which deal with causing “grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety.”
In this case, the police have detained three persons thus far.
